Hooks & Reels
Since 2023, Hooks & Reels has filled rooms in Howth with new stories from local writers, live music, and conversations with guest authors including Roddy Doyle, Paula Meehan and Edel Coffey. No critique, no Q&A: just a full room listening.

'Hooks and Reels' is a great invention.

Our Story
An evening of story and song
Hooks & Reels is an evening of story and song that brings together community writers and musicians to share their passion for storytelling and music. Rooted in the Howth Writing Workshops and led by founder Lara O’Brien, the gatherings celebrate the age-old tradition of sharing life stories through words and melody. Since our very first night, every event has sold out.
Take Part
Calling all artists
Hooks & Reels welcomes new voices — writers, storytellers, and musicians — who want to take part in our evenings of story and song. Events are hosted by Lara O’Brien, an AsIAm Champion, and include the AsIAm Guide, a small introduction to what to expect on the night. If you’d like to read or perform at a future night, email laraobrienbooks@gmail.com.
