A few days before the year ended, Nicole Galland,http://www.nicolegalland.com a Martha's Vineyard friend and author, asked six people to commit to writing a haiku a day for the coming year. As always, I jumped in and committed, before even knowing what a haiku is, then learned that it is a poem of 17 syllables/sounds in order of 5/7/5.
Then something great happened, over 100 people from all around the world joined the Haiku Room, and it has been rolling out daily since January 1st.
The 'room' is ruleless, (which is a very good thing) and a virtual haiku community has formed. There are some really great haiku-ers (not a word I'm sure) out there. For me, sharing my thoughts and words in a short quick form gets me thinking by counting and word sounds, and serves to gear me up in the morning before writing, although I'm still no poet.
Take a look at these beautiful shots and haiku I am sharing by fellow member Ellen Tumavicus.
